First day of Eid on Sept 20: Astronomer
The first day of Eid Al Fitr will fall on September 20, according to Sheikh Salman bin Jabor Al Thani, head of the astronomy department at the Qatari Scientific Club.

UAE marks Eid al Fitr
Eid al Fitr celebrations begin today following confirmation last night of the official sighting of the new moon, marking the end of Ramadan.
The moon-sighting committee announced the beginning of Eid from the Abu Dhabi Judiciary building at about 8.30pm.

Kari Ansari recalls getting ready to celebrate one of the most important religious holidays of the year--the end of the month long Ramadan fast.

She and her husband bought new clothes and gifts for their three children and planned a special family meal. But there was one obstacle to starting the celebration: Leaders of the two local mosques couldn't agree when the feast, called Eid al-Fitr, should begin.
