Authorities and inhabitants in the south of Colombia fear an eruption of the Galeras volcano after four tremors shook the area on Sunday and Monday.
According to the volcanic observatory run by Colombia's Geology and Mining authority Ingeominas, the several tremors are related to the activity of the volcano and an eruption is likely within days or weeks.

The Galeras volcano in southeastern Colombia erupted Saturday night, but there were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries, authorities said.
The volcano erupted at 7:43 p.m., according to the Volcanology and Seismological Observatory in Pasto, the provincial capital of 500,000 people that is just over 10 kilometres from Galeras.

A thousand people were evacuated and traffic was stopped after the Galeras volcano erupted in southern Colombia without causing casualties, officials said Saturday.
The locals were taken to shelters in Pasto, the capital of Narino department on the border with Ecuador, after authorities put the volcano -- the most active in Colombia -- on red alert to signal an imminent or ongoing eruption.

Officials in southern Colombia have issued a code orange alert for the newly-active Galeras volcano which they said could erupt in a matter of days or weeks, according to the state-run Geological and Mining Institute.
Authorities said they are continuing to monitor the nearby Huila volcano, also on orange alert, where sizeable volcanic activity also has been detected in recent weeks.

The 14,110-foot Galeras volcano has erupted violently in southwestern Colombia on Thursday, spewing ash miles into the sky.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious property damage after the volcano began erupting about 8 p.m. and cascading lava lit up the night sky.
About 8,000 people near the volcano where ordered to evacuate the nearby areas.
