NGC 1947 (also ESO 118-43, IRAS 04449-5920 and PGC 15941) is a magnitude +9.7 barred spiral galaxy located 60 million light years away in the constellation Dorado.
The galaxy was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a homemade 9-foot, 22.86 cm (9 inch) f/12 speculum Newtonian reflector at Paramatta, New South Wales, Australia, on the 5th November 1826.

This NASA Hubble Space Telescope view of the nearby barred spiral galaxy NGC 1672 unveils details in the galaxys star-forming clouds and dark bands of interstellar dust. NGC 1672 is more than 60 million light-years away in the direction of the southern constellation Dorado. These observations of NGC 1672 were taken with Hubbles Advanced Camera for Surveys in August of 2005.
