Jim Roe is looking for a home for big telescopes. The executive director of the Alliance for Astronomy, a nonprofit organisation, has been searching for a site to build a centre since its board was organized in 2004. The centre would include a small planetarium and an observing field with two large telescopes, one of which is the largest telescope in the state dedicated to public use, Roe said. The telescope is almost 10 feet long and weighs about 750 pounds. The Alliance for Astronomy is scoping out park land in Wentzville as a potential location to build the centre. Roe recently approached officials to explore a lease on city-owned land. Members of the Park Board and the Board of Aldermen are discussing the idea.
