Volcano erupts on La Reunion island

A volcano on La Reunion in the Indian ocean has erupted for the second time this year.
The latest eruption which began early on Sunday morning, is in an uninhabited area of the island and presents no danger to the local population.

An emergency evacuation is underway on the island of Reunion where Le Piton de la Fournaise has recorded unusual activity.
The pending eruption bizarrely comes just hours after it was reported the suspected wreckage of missing passenger jet Malaysian Airlines MH370 washed up on the beach.
Experts at the island's volcanic observatory, the OVPF, warned an eruption is "imminent".

The Volcano on Reunion erupts, closing tourist access

One of the most active volcanoes in the world is erupting once more on Reunion Island, restricting access to the popular tourist site.
The ongoing volcanic eruption on an island in the Indian Ocean is not spectacular in its scale, but has excited photographers and volcanologists for the photo opportunity such an event presents.
The volcano, known on Reunion Island as Piton de la Fournaise, began erupting late Thursday night and continued through Friday and into Saturday morning.

Officials on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean say the Piton de la Fournaise volcano has erupted.
The prefecture on the French island said the volcano erupted Thursday at 7:10 p.m. local time (1510 GMT) following several days of heightened seismic activity.

A volcano on France's Indian Ocean island of Reunion started erupting on Sunday, forcing authorities to raise the alert for a possible emergency.

"A light lava flow escaped from one crack located about mid-way on the slope of the crater" of the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, Reunion authorities said in a statement.
