Finnish devices provide glimpse into conditions on Mars

Finnish pressure and temperature measurement devices deployed on Mars using the Curiosity rover have transmitted the first set of findings to researchers back on Earth.
Equipment supplied by Finland as part of the unmanned mission to Mars appears to be working flawlessly.

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has begun driving from its landing site, which scientists announced today they have named for the late author Ray Bradbury.
Making its first movement on the Martian surface, Curiosity's drive combined forward, turn and reverse segments. This placed the rover roughly 6 meters from the spot where it landed 16 days ago.

The US space agency's (Nasa) Curiosity rover has finally begun to roll.
The Mars robot, which landed on the Red Planet two weeks ago, turned its six wheels briefly on Wednesday to satisfy engineers that its locomotion system was in full working order.
Curiosity is a sophisticated mobile science laboratory.

Nasa's Curiosity rover has zapped its first Martian rock.

The robot fired its ChemCam laser at a tennis-ball-sized stone lying about 2.5m away on the ground.
The brief but powerful burst of light from the instrument vapourised the surface of the rock, revealing details of its basic chemistry.

Rover's Laser Instrument Zaps First Martian Rock

Today, NASA's Mars rover Curiosity fired its laser for the first time on Mars, using the beam from a science instrument to interrogate a fist-size rock called "Coronation."
The mission's Chemistry and Camera instrument, or ChemCam, hit the fist-sized rock with 30 pulses of its laser during a 10-second period. Each pulse delivers more than a million watts of power for about five one-billionths of a second.

NASA Announces Curiosity Rover Media Events Schedule

NASA will host several media teleconferences and/or news conferences to provide Curiosity rover mission updates in the coming weeks.
The next scheduled media telecons are: Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Thursday, Aug. 23, both at 17:00 UT.
