Paul Charles William Davies, AM (born 22 April 1946) is an English physicist, writer and broadcaster, currently a professor at Arizona State University as well as the Director of BEYOND: Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science. He has held previous academic appointments at the University of Cambridge, University of London, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Adelaide and Macquarie University. Growing up, we all ponder the deep questions of existence. How did the universe begin? Is there some meaning or purpose behind it all? Where do human beings fit in? As we age, though, we become more concerned with mortgage rates and day care, dental insurance and the stock market and only rarely, if ever, consider the big questions. The world-renowned physicist, cosmologist, astrobiologist and science populariser, who came to Arizona State University last fall, has spent his career pondering these issues. And he thinks the answers to a number of fundamental questions may be within reach of humankind, thanks to the power of science.
