The Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) is a space telescope that detects ultraviolet light - a type of radiation that is mostly absorbed by our atmosphere. The GALEX satellite looks back 10 billion years of cosmic history, enlightening us about the basic structure of the universe and the way it evolves and changes.
