India has successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable Agni-1 surface-to-surface missile from Wheelers' Island, on the Orissa coast, in the Bay of Bengal, at 10:15 local time today. According to Indian defence sources, the 15 metre tall missile, weighing about 12 tonnes, has a range of 700-800 km and was launched from a mobile launcher, positioned at launch complex no 4 of the Integrated Test Range. The Agni-1 missile is capable of carrying a 1000 kg warhead.
