The comet P/1990 V1 (Shoemaker-Levy), which was last observed in January 1991, was recovered by Rob H. McNaught on the night of the 12th October using the Siding Spring Survey. The comet was at magnitude 18.
The orbital elements of the comet P/2007 T3 (Shoemaker-Levy) indicate a perihelion passage on the 17th December, 2007, which is 4.5 days over the predicted perihelion time, and at a distance of 1.4 AU of the Sun, and 16.4 years period. The comet P/1990 V1 (Shoemaker-Levy), called Shoemaker-Levy 1 and also indexed as 1990o and 1990 XV, was originally discovered on November 15, 1990, by Carolyn and Eugene Schoemaker, and David Levy (Palomar Observatory). According to calculations by the Japanese amateur astronomer Kazuo Kino****a, the comet had a close encounter, at a distance of 0.664 AU, with Jupiter in June 2006.
