The CSIRO has launched a new research program to study the science of electronic storage in response to our growing need for more megabytes. The program named "Terrabyte Science" will study the growing issues that surround the storage and retrieval of large amounts of data, specifically more than one thousand gigabytes (1 terabyte). With advancements in technology, activities like DNA sequencing, astronomy and electronic surveillance are becoming cheaper and easier than ever before, leading to the creation of massive amounts of new data.
