Maeshowe (or Maes Howe) is a Neolithic chambered cairn and passage grave situated on Mainland, Orkney, Scotland. The monuments around Maeshowe, including Skara Brae, were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It gives its name to the Maeshowe type of chambered cairn, which is limited to Orkney. From June 1, to August 31, Historic Scotland will provide daily tours of the Maeshowe chambered cairn.
Call 01856 761606 or visit the Tormiston Mill, Maeshowes visitor centre to pre-pay and booked in advance. Cost: adults £5.20, children £2.60, concessions £4.20. The tours start at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm.
Historic Scotland is celebrating this years winter solstice at Maeshowe with a special ticket offer from December 11, to January 11, 2008. The ticket will allow you to visit Maeshowe for three times during the allotted period. Prices are £10 for an adult ticket, £7.50 concessions and £5.00 for children.
