A faint new comet was discovered on the 2nd March 2008 by R. E. Hill of the Catalina Sky Survey, which was confirmed by other observers.
The preliminary orbital elements of comet C/2008 E1 (Catalina) indicate a perihelion passage on October 29, 2008 with the distance from 4.8 AU from the Sun, and visual magnitude of 17.2.
