The "Bad Astronomer," as Phil Plait is known among fellow cosmos junkies, is the new space kid in town.
The well-known astro-educator, former NASA scientist, faithful star blogger and Boulder resident is celebrating his latest honour -- an asteroid named just for him.
The asteroid formerly known as 2000 WG11 is now officially known as asteroid 165347 Philplait.
