OPT is pleased to announce the recent addition of the CGE Pro and CGEM telescopes and equatorial mounts from Celestron. The CGEM is an exciting new mid-level option for amateur astronomers, while the CGE Pro is a professional level mount for serious visual and imaging applications.

The Celestron CGEM mount is an affordable mid-sized computerized equatorial mount with a 40 pound payload capacity and solid tracking accuracy for both visual and imaging applications. It features the NexStar computer control technology with a 40,000 object database and the ability to connect to a computer for even greater abilities. The Celestron CGEM mount also features the new All-Star polar alignment technology for fast and accurate polar alignment. This new mount is ideal for those interested in astrophotography and imaging applications, or for those that want to upgrade their current system.

Are computerised "Go-To"mounts just for people too lazy to learn the sky for themselves? Some think so.  Others say "Go-To" mounts are the best thing to happen to amateur astronomers since the invention of the Newtonian reflector.
Both sides have a point.
Yes, you should learn the stars and constellations for yourself as a matter of pride and personal accomplishment.  But a Go-To mount is a wonderful tool, especially for city-based astronomers who struggle to find faint stars in the murky urban skies.  No matter what kind of sky you have, a good Go-To mount can make you a better amateur astronomer.

Fork Equatorial Mount
The following, also very popular mount, is fork equatorial mount. As the name tells us it is one version of equatorial mounts which means that one of two axis is parallel to the Earth's axis of rotation. In this way we avoid slewing at the both axis at the same time when capturing the astrophotos and simplicity almost always means less errors.
We find fork equatorial mounts mostly in observatories since they are more often made for bigger telescopes and not-portable. The exception here are two the biggest manufactures of astronomy equipment: Celestron and Meade. Meade's the most popular telescope - LX200 - has this type of mount.

Sky-Watcher EQ-6 equatorial mount
The Sky-Watcher EQ-6 equatorial mount is the first of its kind, and is top of our range of equatorial mounts. It is a precision instrument capable of carrying massive payloads (up to 25kg) but at the same time is very reasonably priced. The mount is excellent for visual observations and short-term unguided CCD imaging with most telescopes of conventional design. It will easily handle refractors up to 200mm (8") and classic Newtonians up to 350mm (14") in aperture.
