The mission was carried out by an Ariane 5 ECA launcher from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Liftoff was on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 5:44 pm local time in Kourou (4:44 pm in Washington, D.C.,20:44 UT, 10:44 pm in Paris, and on Friday, August 15, at 5:44 am in Tokyo).

Provisional parameters at injection of the cryogenic upper stage (ESC-A) were:
Perigee: 249.8 km for a target of 249.8 km (±4)
Apogee: 35,852 km for a target of 35,931 km (±240)
Inclination: 1.99 degrees for a target of 2.00 degrees (±0.06°)

The first wholly home-designed and built telecommunications satellite for Japan has gone safely into orbit.
The Superbird-7 spacecraft went up on an Ariane rocket from Europe's Kourou launch facility in French Guiana.
Built by the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, the satellite will deliver TV and other services to Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

An Ariane 5 rocket (Flight 185), with the Superbird-7 and AMERICOM-21 telecommunications satellites, was successfully launched from launch complex N° 3 (ELA3), in Kourou, French Guiana,  20:44 UTC,  August 14th, 2008.

The Launch Readiness Review (RAL) took place in Kourou on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 and authorised count-down operations for the Superbird-7 & AMC-21 launch. On its fifth launch of the year, Arianespace will orbit two communications satellites, primarily intended for cable and direct TV broadcast services: Superbird-7 for Japanese operator Space Communications Corporation (SCC) in the scope of a contract with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) and AMC-21 for SES Americom, the American company of the SES group. It will be launched from the Ariane launch complex N° 3 (ELA3), in Kourou, French Guiana.

The ARIANE 5 ECA Launcher lift-off for this flight is scheduled during the night of August 14 to 15, 2008 as soon as possible within the following launch window:

From 5:44 p.m. to 6:35 p.m., local time in Kourou, French Guiana
From 4:44 p.m. to 5:35 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
From 8:44 p.m. to 9:35 p.m. UTC
From 10:44 p.m. to 11:35 p.m. in Paris
From 5:44 a.m. to 6:35 a.m. in Tokyo, on Friday, August 15

Arianespace is to launch the Superbird-7 & AMC-21 communications satellites on Thursday, August 14, 2008.

An Ariane 5 rocket (Flight 185) with an ECA cryogenic upper stage will orbit two  satellites: Superbird-7 for Japanese operator Space Communications Corporation (SCC) in the scope of a contract with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) and AMC-21 for SES AMERICOM, the American operating company of the SES group.
