On the 31st May, 2009,  14:00 UT, the magnitude 7.5  comet C/2008 Q3 (Garradd) will pass  2.36° from the magnitude 6.3 open cluster NGC 5617 in the constellation  Centaurus.     

Position(2000): RA 14 : 29.8, Dec -60 : 43

Comet C/2008 Q3 (Garradd) was  discovered by G. J. Garradd (Siding Spring Survey) on August 27, 2008, and confirmed by A.C. Gilmore (Mount John Observatory).
The preliminary orbital elements of the comet  indicate a perihelion passage on July 1, 2009, at a distance of 2.5 AU from the Sun.
