Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications, and the leading provider of commercial satellites, today announced that the Galaxy 19 satellite built for Intelsat, the world's leader in commercial satellite services, is performing post launch manoeuvres according to plan.
Intelsat, Ltd., the worlds leading provider of commercial satellite services, announced today that at 5:28 a.m. EDT the Galaxy 19 satellite was successfully launched aboard a Sea Launch Zenit-3SL rocket.
Sea Launch successfully delivered Intelsat's Galaxy 19 satellite to orbit on September 24, 2008, in a flawless mission. The first signal from the satellite was acquired at the Hartebeesthoek ground station immediately after spacecraft separation. Weighing 4,690 kg (10,340 lbs), this high-power C-band and Ku-band satellite will provide communications services to customers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean islands.
The Galaxy 19 communications satellite aboard a Zenit 3SL rocket has successfully launched from the Odyssey Launch Platform positioned at its equatorial launch site at the scheduled launch time (09:28 GMT, 2:28am Pacific time). The Galaxy 19 spacecraft will replace the geosynchronous Galaxy 25 satellite at 97 degrees West Longitude and be used for telecommunication services across North America.
The Sea Launch team has initiated a 72-hour countdown at the equatorial launch site, in preparation for the launch of Intelsats Galaxy 19 satellite on September 24. Liftoff is planned at 2:28am PDT (9:28 GMT), at the opening of a two-hour launch window.
