The International Astronomical Association has named an asteroid after a teenage Indian- American girl, Nandini Sarma, who has her roots in Assam. Daughter of scientist Dr Girish Chandra Sarma, who heads a US company, Nandini is pursuing studies in molecular biology at the Harvard University. The asteroid has been named after her for winning the first place in a science project which advocates garlic as a substitute for synthetic chemical food preservatives.
