One Arrested Another Sought In Museum Meteorite Theft

Authorities in southern North Carolina have made one arrest following the theft of 100 meteorites from a science education centre and are searching for a second suspect.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that 29-year-old Brian Koontz of Balsam Grove is charged with breaking and entering, larceny and injury to personal property.

More than $80,000 worth of property was stolen from the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, according to officials with the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Spend Friday with the stars at Pisgah institute

A special after-dark "behind the scenes" tour Friday at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute will include celestial observations using PARIs optical or radio telescopes. The program begins at 7 p.m. with the tour, followed by the observing.

Rare meteorites to be displayed at PARI in Rosman

The public is invited to a special meteorite presentation by Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute President Don Cline on July 9. The evenings activities will include a tour of the PARI campus near Rosman and celestial observations using PARIs optical or radio telescopes.

The public is invited to a presentation of "Astronomy and the Citizen Scientist" Friday, January 9 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute.

The program is part of PARIs monthly Evening at PARI series and will feature a presentation on the role the public can play in worldwide scientific initiatives. PARI scientists will explain how citizen scientists can use the Internet to participate in ongoing scientific work performing observations, measurements or computing. Astronomy Citizen Science projects include classification of stars, searching for interplanetary dust particles on returned spacecraft, identifying galaxies, surveying the surfaces of planets and searching for planets around other stars. The presentation will include instructions on how to access these projects and participate.
