Astronomical union designates asteroid after the teacher and astronomer Kurt Hopf.

Es kommt nicht alle Tage vor, dass jemand zu Lebzeiten in den Himmel kommt. Kurt Hopf aus Hof hat das geschafft, und zwar buchstäblich. Die Internationale Astronomische Union (IAU) honoriert die Leistungen des langjährigen Leiters der Sternwarte Hof, indem sie einen Asteroiden im sogenannten Minor Planet Circular auf den Namen "Kurthopf" taufte.

The asteroid 'Kurthopf' was discovered in 1982 by the world famous astronomers Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker.
Asteroid 73670 (1982QP), is probably a few kilometres in size. There are presently no accurate measurements.
