Mount Asama erupted in 1783 (Tenmei 3), causing widespread damage. The three-month-long plinian eruption in 1783 produced andesitic pumice falls, pyroclastic flows, lava flows, and enlarged the cone.

Japan's Mt. Asama, in Tsumagoi, about 140 km  northwest of Tokyo, erupted early Monday from its summit crater.
The volcano spewed hot rocks and sent ash showers as far as Tokyo and its vicinity in the southern Kanto region, Japan. There was no major damage in the sparsely populated vicinity
