A Delta II rocket managed by NASA's Launch Services Program lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, Tuesday with a spacecraft for the United States Missile Defence Agency. The spacecraft is called the Space Tracking and Surveillance System Advanced Technology Risk Reduction mission, or STSS-ATRR. Liftoff from NASA's Space Launch Complex 2 occurred at 1:24 p.m. PDT.

A Delta 2 rocket soared into the skies above Vandenberg Air Force Base this afternoon, on the way to carry an experimental missile-defence satellite to space.

You may have heard some rumbling in the sky today.
That rumble was a successful Delta 2 rocket launch.
The rocket lifted off at about 1:24 p.m. from Vandenberg Airforce Base.
It was carrying an experimental satellite for the Missile Defence Agency.
This mission is the first in a series of satellites from the M.D.A.
