New dome to be installed at Airdrie Observatory The new dome at Airdrie observatory is due to be installed today (Wednesday) after months of refurbishment work.
Monklands residents will be 'starry eyed' as improvement works got underway at Airdrie Observatory to improve viewings of the sky at night. A state-of-the-art new copper sheathed dome, complete with gyrator, is replacing the current observatory roof, making it easier to open for viewings. Plans, as part of the £380,000 contract awarded to Hunter & Clark Ltd of Glasgow, also include fitting new roof lights and repairing/cleaning stonework in selected areas.
