Recovery of the comet P/2002 JN16 (LINEAR) = COMET P/2009 L1 (LINEAR) by Leonid Elenin (Tzec Maun observatory), working for the ROCOT (Recovery off periOdic COmeTs) project, on the 1st June, 2009.
Comet P/2002 JN16 (LINEAR) was first discovered on the 9th May, 2002 by the LINEAR monitoring telescope. The comet had a perihelion passage in July 2002, and had last been observed on the 1st September, 2002.
The orbital elements of the comet indicate a perihelion passage on the 24th January, 2009 at a distance of 1.78 AU from the Sun, and a 6.49 year orbital period.
