Guatemala is evacuating tens of thousands of people after the Fuego volcano started spewing ash and lava. Volcanologists said powerful eruptions were catapulting burning rocks as high as 1,000m above the crater and lava was flowing down its slopes. Read more
Guatemala's Fire Volcano erupted Thursday, spewing lava, rock and ash near the colonial city of Antigua and some of the Central American country's most famous coffee farms. Guatemala's volcanology service said seven families were evacuated from their homes near the volcano, about 50 kilometres southwest of Guatemala City. The villagers were unharmed.
