A Delta II rocket body that was launched from the Vandenberg Air Force Base on the 8th October, 2009, is predicted to re-enter the Earths atmosphere on the 2nd March, 2010.
The Boeing Company, through its commercial launch business, today successfully launched the WorldView-2 satellite for DigitalGlobe aboard a Delta II rocket. Liftoff occurred at 11:51 a.m. Pacific time from Pad SLC-2W at Vandenberg Air Force Base. The Delta II released WorldView-2 approximately 62 minutes after liftoff, delivering it into a sun-synchronous orbit where the satellite will begin its mission of collecting and recording commercial, high-resolution Earth imagery.
DigitalGlobe Announces the Successful Launch of WorldView-2 DigitalGlobe, a leading global provider of commercial high-resolution world-imagery products and services for defence and intelligence, civil government, and commercial customers, today announced the successful launch and deployment of WorldView-2, the companys latest high-resolution, remote-sensing satellite. The satellite launched on a Boeing Delta II 7920 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The DigitalGlobe ground station received a downlink signal confirming that the satellite successfully separated from its launch vehicle and automatically initialised its onboard processors. WorldView-2 is currently undergoing a calibration and check-out period. DigitalGlobe expects imagery products and services from WorldView-2 to be commercially available in approximately 90 days.
