The Northrop Grumman Corporation and Raytheon Company built Space Tracking and Surveillance System (STSS) Demonstration program satellites participated in a test of the U.S. Missile Defence Agency's (MDA's) Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system on June 28 in the most thorough indication yet of the space-based sensor's capabilities. As we reported, two ball-shaped meteoroids crashed to ground thirty kilometres to the northeast of Buren Soum, Tuv Province. Delta II rocket body that was launched o the 25th September, 2010, for the STSS Demo mission is predicted to re-enter the Earths atmosphere. Due to the classified nature of the mission the time and location are not constrained.
The 127-foot United Launch Alliance rocket delivered to space two demonstration satellites that could lead to a major advance in the nation's defence against ballistic missiles. Working together about 840 miles above Earth, the satellites will try to detect and track missiles throughout their flight, something existing combinations of defence satellites and land-, sea- and air-based radar systems can't do.
