The Cassini spacecraft imaged Dione during a close approach on April 24, 2007.
Variations of impact crater density can be seen on the surface of Dione in this image.
The southern end of the bright Palatine Linea fracture system can be seen, as well as part of a large impact basin, at the lower left, along the terminator.
The mosaic is an orthographic projection centred at 33 degrees South, 74 degrees West, over the southern part of Dione's leading hemisphere.
North on Dione is up and rotated 6 degrees to the right.

The monochrome view uses a combination of images taken with spectral filters sensitive to wavelengths of light centred at 338, 568 and 930 nanometers.
The images in this mosaic were taken with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera on April 24, 2007 at a distance of approximately 121,000 kilometres from Dione and at a Sun-Dione-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 55 degrees. Image scale is 723 metres per pixel.

Images taken using red, green and blue spectral filters were combined to create the natural colour view. The images were taken with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera at a distance of approximately 268,000 kilometres from Dione and at a Sun-Dione-spacecraft angle of 92 degrees.
Image scale is 2 kilometres per pixel.
