Indian rocket launches asteroid hunter, 6 other satellites

A rocket carrying seven new satellites, including the first spacecraft designed to hunt huge asteroids and two of the world's smallest space telescopes, launched into space Monday from an Indian spaceport.
The Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle blasted off at 7:31 a.m. EST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India, on a mission to deliver its multinational payloads into Earth orbit.

Fuelling of Indian rocket carrying seven satellites in progress

The countdown for the Monday evening launch of an Indian rocket that would sling into orbit the world's first smart phone-operated nano satellite and a space telescope satellite - and five others including an Indo-French satellite - is progressing smoothly, an official of the Indian space agency said.

SARAL launch postponed to February

Glitches in SARAL, a satellite meant for studying the ocean currents and sea surface heights, has led to the postponement of its launch from December to the second week of February 2013 from the Sriharikota spaceport.
A core-alone version of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was to carry SARAL, an Indo-French joint venture, and five other satellites.

ISRO to miss 12-12-12 launch date for SARAL

ISRO may be adept at putting satellites into precise orbit but now appears set to fall flat on its publicly-pronounced date to launch Indo-French spacecraft "SARAL" on 12-12-12.
ISRO sources confirmed today that with technical issues cropping up and additional tests proposed to improve reliability; the blast-off on December 12 (12-12-12) is ruled out.

The Indian Space Research Organisation's next PSLV launch slated for December this year will also put five small commercial foreign satellites in orbit.
Among them is a 148-kg Canadian surveillance satellite, Sapphire.
ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan said the satellites, weighing between 148 kg and 3 kg, would fly piggyback with the main satellite, SARAL, which was an Indo-French cooperative mission. The flight is slated for '12-12-12': or December 12 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the French space agency have called for research proposals on the data to be generated from AltiKA, a payload in Satellite with ARgos and AltiKa (SARAL).
