Azerspace-1/Africasat-1a, also known as AzerSat-1 (Azerbaijani: AzrSat-1) is Azerbaijan's first satellite in space. Built by Orbital Sciences Corporation, it was launched into orbit on February 7, 2013 from Kourou in French Guiana at orbital positions 46° east.

The International Relations and Accounting Centre of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan has chosen Arianespace to launch the country's first communications satellite.
Arianespace announced today that it has signed a launch Service & Solutions contract with IR&AC for Azerbaijan's satellite to be launched by the end of 2012.
Weighing approximately 3,000 kg. at launch, the satellite will be boosted into geostationary transfer orbit by an Ariane 5 rocket from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko said on Monday that Ukraine is planning to launch "AzerSat," Azerbaijan's first satellite, with its rocket, according to news reaching here from Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Gryshchenko said that they exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the field of aviation and spaceflight, focusing on the joint satellite launch project.

Ukraine's Zenit rocket may launch first Azeri communications satellite

The Dnipropetrovsk-based Pivdenne Design Bureau has submitted an application to enter its Zenit rocket in a tender conducted by Azerbaijan's Communications Ministry to place the country's first communications satellite, AzerSat 1, into orbit.
