Astronauts complete final shuttle space-walk at ISS

The last ever space-walk in the 30-year history of the US shuttle programme has been completed at the International Space Station.
Astronauts Mike Fincke and Greg Chamitoff's seven-and-a-half-hour walk completed Nasa's part in constructing the ISS.

Zapping deadly bacteria using space technology
 
Technology developed with ESA funding and drawing on long-running research aboard the International Space Station is opening up a new way to keep hospital patients safe from infections.
 Using plasma - superheated, electrically charged gas - Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics director Gregor Morfill is developing ways to kill bacteria and viruses that can cause infections in hospitals.

Second Endeavour spacewalk under way

Drew Feustel and Mike Fincke opened the International Space Station's Quest airlock hatch at 2:03 a.m. EDT and switched their spacesuits to battery power at 2:05 a.m. to officially begin the spacewalk 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer bolted to space station

A giant particle detector has been slotted into position on the back of the International Space Station (ISS).
The 7-tonne Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) will sift cosmic rays over the next decade, looking for clues to the origin and make-up of the Universe.

Shuttle Endeavour docks at International Space Station

The US space shuttle Endeavour has arrived at the International Space Station (ISS).
The orbiter, which is making its last foray above the planet, will spend just under two weeks at the platform.
It is delivering a $2bn particle physics experiment and a tray of critical spare parts.

The mother of Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli, who is in orbit on the International Space Station, has died in her hometown near Milan, officials said Tuesday.
Maria Motta died following an illness at her home Monday evening. She was 78.
