The de Havilland DH 106 Comet was the first production commercial jetliner. Developed and manufactured by de Havilland at its Hatfield, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom headquarters, the Comet 1 prototype first flew on 27 July 1949.

de Havilland Comet entered service (1952)
Start of the Jet age.
The de Havilland Comet was the world's first commercial jet airliner.
The first BOAC flight with fare-paying passengers took off on the 2nd May from London to Johannesburg, via Rome, Beirut and Khartoum.
