On February 10, 1996, Deep Blue became the first machine to win a chess game against a reigning world champion (Garry Kasparov) under regular time controls. However, Kasparov won three and drew two of the following five games, beating Deep Blue by a score of 4-2 (wins count 1 point, draws count ½ point). The match concluded on February 17, 1996.

Deep Blue beat G. Kasparov in 1997 



Short documentary about computer chess history up to the third millennium and especially about the 1997 chess match between Garry Kasparov World Chess Champion and IBM's computer Deep Blue. The computer won the match 3.5 - 2.5 and Kasparov lost a chess match for the first time in his life.

The infamous Sixth game of the Deep Blue - Kasparov rematch, played in New York City on May 11, 1997 and starting at 3:00 p.m. EDT, was the last chess game in the rematch of 1997 of Deep Blue versus Garry Kasparov. (Deep Blue was further strengthened from the previous year's match with Kasparov and was unofficially nicknamed "Deeper Blue".) It marked the first time that a computer had defeated a World Champion in a match of several games.
