Among the most famous astronomers in ancient China, Zhang Heng of the East Han dynasty was considered the most brilliant.
Zhang Heng, alias Pingzhi, was born in A.D. 78, in Shiqiao Town, Xie County, Nanyang Shire (about 16 miles north of the current Nanyang City) in Henan Province. At the age of 16, he left his hometown to travel around China and study. He met many famous scholars.
