A UC Santa Cruz scientist will share in a $1 million astrophysics prize for work in designing telescopes that can see deeper into the universe and farther back in time. Jerry Nelson, professor of astronomy and astrophysics, is one of three winners of the Kavli Prize in Astrophysics, sharing the prize with Roger Angel of the University of Arizona Tuscon and Ray Wilson, formerly of Imperial College in London and the European Southern Observatory.
