China today launched a new meteorological satellite equipped with advanced detectors which will play an important role in monitoring natural disasters, researching environment and climate change.
It was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in northern China's Shanxi Province on a Long March-4C carrier, the second of China's Fengyun-3 (FY-3) series.

China has launched a weather forecasting satellite.
The Fengyun-3B satellite was successfully launched atop a long March 4C launch vehicle from the Taiyuan Launch Centre in northern China's Shanxi Province, at 18:37 UT, 4th November, 2010.
The Fengyun-3B (FY-3) is a 2nd generation polar orbit meteorological satellite designed to replace the FengYun 1 (FY-1).
