Dr Becky Parker, Head of Physics at Simon Langton Grammar School, has won the first RAS Patrick Moore Medal in recognition of her outstanding work as a teacher of astronomy.

Patrick Moore Medal to recognise outstanding astronomy teachers

The Council of the Royal Astronomical Society have agreed to create a new Medal to recognise oustanding teachers of astronomy. The Patrick Moore Medal is named after the broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore, one of the world's most famous contributors to public education and outreach in astronomy.
Nominations for the Medal will open in 2011, with the first award to be made at the National Astronomy Meeting in 2012.
