Those who saw the bright light on Tuesday night described it as a glowing circle or ring moving fast towards Earth.
Brad Inggs, a director at the institute, yesterday said the object was part of a rocket launched in Russia in January.

Durbanites have been calling through about a possible meteorite sighting over Durban last night.
A listener in Pinetown, and another in Morningside, have described a flaming ball tearing across the twilight sky at around 6.30 yesterday.
