A commercial Earth-imaging satellite will ride to space aboard an Atlas 5 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in 2014, the second nongovernment mission acquired for the West Coast booster in the past six months. Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lockheed Martin Corporation, announced Tuesday that DigitalGlobe had picked Atlas 5 to launch that companys next-generation, high-resolution Earth-imaging satellite, WorldView-3.
