Title: The Manegaon diogenite Authors: K. Fredriksson
Manegaon, one of only nine observed falls of diogenites (or hypersthene acondrites), fell in India on June 29, 1843. Manegaon was first reported by Abbot (1844) and described and analysed by Maskelyne and Flight (1870). A modern analysis was reported by McCarthy et al. (1974). The present investigation is concerned with a new analysis of Manegaon which is compared with the other eight hypersthene achondrites analysed by Fredriksson et al. (1976). Phase compositions were determined by standard electron probe techniques. The investigation shows that Manegaon (at least the small fragment studied) is a crystal fragment breccia. Structurally it resembles most of the other hypersthene achondrites. It is emphasised that all the nine diogenite falls are remarkably similar in chemistry and mineralogy as well as structure.
