China successfully launched a navigation satellite  into space at 5:44 a.m. Beijing Time Wednesday, as a part of its indigenous satellite navigation and positioning network known as Beidou, or Compass system.. It is the ninth spacecraft in China's indigenous satellite navigation and positioning network and the fourth in inclined geosynchronous orbit.
The orbiter, launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwestern Sichuan Province, was boosted by a Long March-3A carrier rocket into a geostationary orbit.

China will launch the ninth orbiter into space in "coming days" as part of its indigenous satellite navigation and positioning network.
The "Beidou," or Compass, navigation satellite will be launched on a Long March-3A carrier rocket, said an unnamed spokesman for the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province Monday.
