The Terra satellite captured an image at 10:40 a.m. local time, on October 12, 2005 of Typhoon Kirogi, a small powerful storm system about 500 kilometres from Okinawa. It is travelling roughly southwest, but as yet poses no threat to any populated areas.
At that time, Typhoon Kirogi had sustained winds of 200 kilometres per hour near the storm’s centre.
