Astronomers and businesses are joining in a campaign to turn off the lights in central Tokyo on Saturday, the day of the Tanabata star festival on the lunar calendar. Tokyo Tower in Minato Ward will turn off its lights one hour earlier than usual on Saturday evening, and a stargazing event will be held on the Tokyo City View observation tower at Roppongi Hills.
