Maxima of long period variable U Arietis on the 28th November, 2015.
U Arietis (also U Ari, IRAS 03082+1436 and HD 19737) is a Mira variable star located 2530 light-years away in the constellation of Aries. The star is a oxygen rich variable of spectral type M4.5-7.5e whose brightness varies between magnitude +7.2 and +15.2 over a period of 371.13 days. U Arietis has a diameter that is ~610 times larger than the sun, and shines with a brightness 8400 ± 3500 times the solar luminosity . The effective temperature estimated as 2280 ± 80 K, is lower than what would be expected for a Mira variable (~3000 K). As is typical for this kind of variable, there is stellar mass loss, in the case of U Arietis it is about 57 x 10 -8 solar masses per year.
