The new Slooh "map the universe" layer integrates Slooh's Space Camera technology and worldwide network of powerful robotic mountaintop telescopes with the Google Earth application. Anyone, regardless of age or skill level, can explore outer space in real-time and play an active role in mapping the universe. NOAAs Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research and Google have signed a cooperative research and development agreement outlining how they will work together to create state-of-the-art visualisations of scientific data to illustrate how our planet works. Under the agreement, NOAA and Google plan to work together on research and development to join NOAAs oceanographic, meteorological, biological, and climatological data with Googles software capabilities. The wide availability of Googles Internet tools has the potential to bring visualizations of NOAA data to new audiences around the world. Read more
Live3D is a web-based application that allows users to update the geometry and textures in Google Earth to see what the world looks like at this very moment. Users are encouraged to take one of the many outdoor webcam images and embed them three-dimensional space, constructing a scene with up-to-date images. Live3D can also calibrate camera images and infer the camera's location and orientation. So, without leaving your desk, you can geo-locate and geo-orient a camera (usually to within a couple meters).
