A suspected meteor has been spotted by people across the country tonight. The object, described by many eyewitnesses as a "bright fireball" followed by long vapour cloud, was spotted from as far south as Ashburton to the Waikato town of Tirau, around 6.30pm. Read more
There have been numerous reports of what appears to be a meteor shooting across the sky in the South Island and lower North Island. Sightings of a "ball of coloured flame" or "silver fireball" have been witnessed in Christchurch, Whanganui, Wellington, Kapiti Coast, Nelson and Kaikoura between 6pm and 7pm on Monday. Read more
