Scientists and researchers in disciplines from astrophysics to zoology are facing a common problem: rather than poring over one or two photographic plates, astronomers have access to surveys of millions of galaxies; rather than spending six months in the field, ecologists can carpet a forest with sensors and webcams. This flood of data makes new forms of science possible, but it also risks overwhelming researchers entirely.
