Castalia meteorite fell at 2:30 p.m., May 14, 1874. Observer heard a rumbling roar 3 miles north of Louisburg, with explosions lasting 4 minutes. Broke into 12 or more pieces. Composed of 15% nickel/iron and 85% stony minerals (bronzite, olivene, anorthite, and enstatite). Described by Genth in 1891 USGS Survey Bulletin. Type: Ordinary chondrite, H5.
