The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has approved new names for nine craters on Mercury.
Egonu for a 25-km-wide crater located at 67.4°N, 299.2°E. The feature was named in honour of the Nigerian artist Uzo Egonu (1931-1996).
Gaudí for a 81-km-wide crater located at 76.9°N, 290.5°E. The feature was named in honour of the Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (1852-1926).
Kandinsky for a 60-km-wide crater located at 87.9°N, 280.1°E. The feature was named in honour of the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944).
Petronius for a 36-km-wide crater located at 86.3°N, 44.7°E. The feature was named in honour of the Roman author Gaius Petronius Arbiter (c. 27-66 AD).
Prokofiev for a 112-km-wide crater located at 86°N, 296.3°E. The feature was named in honour of the Russian composer Sergey Prokofiev (1891-1953).
Qiu Ying for a 20-km-wide crater located at 82.6°N, 87.5°E. The feature was named in honour of the Chinese painter Qiu Ying (1494-1552).
Tolkien for a 50-km-wide crater located at 88.8°N, 210.7°E. The feature was named in honour of the English author John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973).
Tryggvadóttir for a 31-km-wide crater located at 89.2°N, 166.5°E. The feature was named in honour of the Icelandic artist Nína Tryggvadóttir (1913-1968).
Yoshikawa for a 30-km-wide crater located at 81.2°N, 254°E. The feature was named in honour of the Japanese novelist Eiji Yoshikawa (1892-1962).
